Bill Gates is the Anti-Christ.

It is interesting that most hackers hate Bill Gates not so much because he stole computer time, but rather because he wanted to *sell* software. It's all Bill's fault.

• The International Anti-Microsoft Network. They operate an anti-M$ web ring via webring.org. To see the current list of sites in that web ring, check out this site.

• Check out the Microsoft Hate Page . (Warning: their front page is a bit -- intense. The rest of it is fairly low-key, though.)

• I don't know whether it was intentional humor or not, but www.teamgates.com used to be hilarious. Now they're just broken.

  This was either a fiendishly intricate humorous plot or the worst case of Net-based sycophantism I've ever seen. It featured the "Bill Clock", a small Windows app you could download from the site that would tell you what time it was where Bill Gates lived.

  (I thought that it was pretty funny that they needed a whole application to do what any Unix version can do via the

  /bin/sh command, but then again I'm an unreconstructed Unix bigot.)

  I found their FAQ page (to which you could find a link from their main page, waaay down at the bottom in teeny-tiny type), which told you about the underlying hardware and software for the site. For a long time (i.e. when it worked) it was running on a Solaris 2.5 box running an Apache web server.

  Now, of course, it's running NT and IIS, and it's clearly broken. There's probably a moral in here somewhere.

Serious

• I recommend Roberto di Cosmo's CyberSnare, an insightful article written by someone at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS).

• Matt Welsh's Boycott Microsft web site is quite good, especially the piece on the dangers of Microsoft Technology.

• The Unix versus NT Organization. A very good site, especially the Kirch Paper that seems to have kicked it off.

• James Gleick has an interesting set of articles about Microsoft, including my absolute favorite, Microspeak (originally published in the NY Times Magazine section in June of 1997. He also has Making Microsoft Safe for Capitalism from way back in 1995 -- it's remarkably fresh even today.

• The KMFMS (Kein Mitleid Für Microsoft) site is pretty cool. For someone who isn't convinced that Microsoft is evil, it's a good introduction, especially its What's So Bad About Microsoft? page, which is chock-full of good information and links.
